I bought this knife to possibly add to my collection and review. I have read alot about this knife. Until recently when I bought my first Emerson I had stayed away from liner lock knives. I heard so much good about the Rat 1 that I would finally get one. All the hype was true. This is a great knife. It has a great lock and the whole knife feels very ergonomic to me. You could use this knife for just about anything and could even press it into a more tactical role if needed. The knife arrived perfect. There were no flaws in mine at all. Very sharp and even centered blade. I just tested a buck vantage in this same price range and this knife blows it away. I gave the Buck Vantage to a friend but I will be keeping this for my collection. I'm carrying it now along with my Emerson. It seems to be able to do whatever I want with it. Just a great knife. Almost perfect. I wish the pocket clip wasn't painted but it's really not a big deal. Buy this. You will love it!!!

This is a great knife nice sharp AUS8 blade, solid built strong. It can be your EDC or take it out camping its a good all around folder a lot of value for the money. The only thing is the scales they feel cheap and its a bit on the heavy side but don't mind it that much. Its a great knife don't pass up on it if you get a chance to get one.

This is the best folder on the market today. This is not a bold claim, as I have used this knife daily for 6 months for EVERYTHING, and it did better than more expensive folders. I've cut boxes, shaved wood, cut rope, eaten steak and even batonned with it along with countless other things. It's as fast as an assisted opening knife, has excellent lockup, excellent jimping and makes an excellent self-defense tool. The drop point FFG blade is perfectly suited for any task. If you have to buy only one knife to meet all of your needs, then let it be this one. Hell, buy 2 just in case you lose one, it sure gives you more bang for your buck than any other knife on the market.

Great lockup and centered blade AUS8 came wicked sharp. Little big for most in the role of EDC, overall one of the best sub 30 blade I have ran across.Had it over a year and still love it.

This is probably the best knife you can get for under $30. The blade is aus8 and comes shaving sharp out of the box! Holds a really good edge. Lockup is excellent. Torque screws and pillar construction really give nice value to the knife. Jimping is good. Zytel handles are kinda slick but it has a nice finger choyle. Steel liners and liner lock.

Black version's painted blade gets scratched of easily. Ok pocket clip.

Takes a while to open up fast, but after a little bit of fondling with it, it opens uP easily.

A hard working knife with a 3 1/2 inch blade

Shortly said, that knife is a bang for the buck. Ive got it for my edc utility knife. Im cutting high abrasive materials with it, the knife is holding its edge pretty well. I sharpen it very easily with the Spyderco sharpmaker, just a few minutes on the white stones over a few days and it will be like a razor-like. Its very comfortable, i like it. I would give it a overall rating of 9out of 10. Thats because i dont like that the knife doesnt have an assist, or some sort of flipper system. Its little hard to get use to the opening. If you want to deploy the knife fast, sometimes that would require more efforts and training.

First off let me mention that I am a collector of knives since my scouting days many years ago. Most knives i have are functional. This RAT-1 knife is a very well thought out knife in the tactical area with some overlap to EDC , if weight is not an issue. My RAT-1 was very tight out of the box and I had to play around with the pivot screws to get the opening and closing just right. I feel the materials used are adequate for the design and desired use. With todays high priced folders streaming into the market it is good to see a company meet our needs with a more economical price tag.

factory edge was excellent, holds edge well, flat grind makes this a great knife for slicing/shaving - I've used this to trim a lot of wood while building a house, including fitting door strikes and cutting hinge mortises, as well as breaking down boxes, cutting up rope and food, making fuzz sticks, etc....

The only downside to the knife is the durability of the black blade coating, which started chipping with the first cardboard box I cut up with it.
