After reading the other reviews I wonder if mine is a fake? Ergos are great, snaps open quickly, but locking mech is terrible, slight preasure on back of knife and it fails. Also the blade it self doesn't seem to hold an edge at all. I put it to hard use, but it dulls rapidly. I'm going to send it back to the factory as I think the locking mech is defective. I've had gerbers, crk, spyder co's, and benchmade's and all were superior.

I had the same problem with one of their folders and I sent it back to Zero Tolerance and they actually replaced the knife at no cost.

Yeah it must be defective I have never had a problem. While I don't do cutting with it everyday but the edge has never been a problem except that sharpening it can be tricky.

Another exceptional design and of highest quality. This knife rocks so well that I bought two--one for myself and one for my son! The Tri-Ad lock is awesome.

An excellent knife for extreme duty. Strong steel that satys sharp for a looong time even after chopping through oak branches to make a fire. The only drawbacks are 1) 1095 steel is not stainless (Duh!) 2)The micarta scales are hard and can get uncomfortable during extreme chopping. This is true for all micarta scales I have used. overall 9/10.

I use this knife for everything outdoors, if I need a bigger blade I'll use an axe. Excellent feel in the hand, just wish it was a little bit longer, but it is the 4 model, so expect that. VERY sharp out of the box, holds an edge well. The blade is powder coated and has held up very well, just oil the exposed blade to prevent rust on the 1095 steel. Comes with linen micarta handles, very nice grip. Only gripe is the sheath doesn't come with a belt dangle. It comes with MOLLE locks, but I like belt dangle carry. Just my opinion, you may love the blade higher up. But all in all, ESEE makes phenomenal knives and my ESEE 4 is no different. Highly recommended.

When I got this it was even larger than I'd pictured but it is very light. I EDC mine its so easy to carry. The materials of the blade and handle are top notch and the ergos are great for numerous positions/ choked up to way back. The blade geo lends to a great slicer and very functional all around knife. I got what I paid for.

I went to clean this knife today and realized I'd owned it for over 7 years. Figured that warranted some online praise. Picked it up at Walmart for around 20 bucks, so I may even own a cheaper variation produced for mass department store sale. Opens fast, grips well, stays sturdy, and when properly sharpened it's a razor.

First off let me say that I have a 5500, which is just an auto version of this knife.
Same axis lock and everything.
I am super happy with this knife, it is by far my favorite of all my knifes I have owned. I have a few other benchmades, kershaws and other knifes but nothing ever feels as good in my hand as this knife. My only regret is that I would have got the D2 steel on mine instead of the 154CM. Its not that I have a complaint about the 154CM but I am very hard on my knifes and could use the D2.
This knife feels so solid in my hand, its almost feels as solid as a fixed blade does and to me that is how a folder should feel. GREAT JOB BENCHMADE!

TOPS Knives Stryker Defender Tool

-Price Paid: $134.00
-Used for Outdoor/Survival
-Owned for 3 months

Comments:

The blade is nice, however Tops fail to deliver a consistant model of the blade. The blade does not spark flint well, it is "supposed to be 1095 High carbon steel with a rc around 55-58. After attempting to strike a regular flint of a fire steel, the back of the blade started to wear prematuraley as almost the flint was stronger than the blade. The Stryker defender tool has many variations of model, again no consistancy. Type of Serrations varies, serration location varies, labeling varies, the blood grove varies. There reply is that "no two knives are the same." Of course no two knives are the same, however I am looking for proffessional consistancy in blade models, if they fail to deliver such, why have a blade model to begin with.

Reviewing an old knife I no longer carry is a bit odd, but I noticed it didn't have a review, so I figured I'd throw one out there.

I purchased one of these knives 12 years ago, back when I was in Boy Scouts. It was my first true folder of any worth, and I carried it everywhere I was allowed to (obviously, no pocket knives permitted on the neutered school campuses of today :-/). That included countless trips to the middle of nowhere in Texas on Scouting trips. I beat the hell out of that knife over a 5 year period before the little ball bearing on the liner lock (that helps keep the blade closed) was worn flat so it wouldn't reliably stay closed in my pocket.

I still have the knife, and for whatever reason, have not sent it in to be replaced, as I'm certain CRKT would do. Maybe I'm overly sentimental, I don't know. However, other than that little bearing wearing out, the knife still works fine. It still holds an edge fairly well enough for EDC use, and still opens smooth as butter. Are there better knives out there? Yeah, probably. But you'll pay more for them. For a $35-40 knife, it's hard to beat!
