This is the best knife I have ever owned. This thing can cut, pry, baton and then it will laugh and ask for more. It has a coating on the blade to keep it from rusting (it is heat treated 1095 steel) so only the sharpened part of the blade is exposed. Some may think the price is a little high, but quality is not cheap.

Actually. SR101 is a Deferentially Tempered 52100 Ballbearing Steel, 52100 is similar to 5160, but with more Carbon.

Comment by Keero   10/05/2013
Omg just go on the swamp rat website and read the knives specifications. Same fir scrapyard and busse. Lmao wtf.

Comment by Aaron is wrong   03/13/2013
SR101 is not spring steel- it is a steel used to make ball bearings-jeez- where do you get your info?

Comment by OneWhoKnows   02/14/2013
Double false Most Busse knives are made from Infi steel- most Swamp Rat knives are made from SR101 and most Scrap Yard knives are made from SR77. However each of these makers has used each of these steels and others as well.

Comment by Aaron   01/29/2013
False, all busse and bussekin knives are made from sr101 spring steel.

I picked up this knife when i saw that Spyderco was discontinuing it in 2012. i have to say that i am in love with this thing. the blade came very sharp right out of the box. it is extremely light and is a real head turner. this knife is one hell of a slicer and open just as smooth as it cuts. when i first got it there was what looked to be oil stains in the G10. after a week or 2 of EDC it seems to have worn away. the only thing i cant really figure out is why this knife carries such a high price tag? i'm glad i got one before they disappear!

i have had this knife for about a week and i have been carrying it everyday since i got it. this is my first ZT and i am a little bit disappointed. most of the people i talked with online swear by ZT and i was really looking forward to receiving it. the edge and the steel are very nice. the handle is amazing and feels very nice in my hands. the knife is pretty heavy, but it still rides in the pocket very well. now onto the bad news. after only cutting paper, tape and some assorted boxes, i now have a scratch in the paint all the way down to the bare steel... i know it's not the end of the world, but i am a little disappointed in the fragility of the blade coating. it also seems that the thumb studs are a little to close to the handle when the knife is closed and you really have to dig into the handle to open it with your thumb if you want to use the studs, but i guess they make up for that with the huge blade flipper.

Comment by Jim   01/18/2016
The 'thumb studs' are blade stops, the same as the 350. Flipper works fine!

This knife is well worth the money. I have carried a number of different knives, hands down the light weight and quick opening speed make this an amazing choice for anyone in the market.

I am one of Benchmades biggest fans BUT this one really disappointed me, it's a great pocket knife however the finish on the scales just rubs off TOO easily and for a $200.00 knife it's such a let down. Benchmade makes great knives but they just can't get the finish to stick to there aluminum scales for some reason, very sad indeed...!!!

I held every Benchmade knife in the shop - about 20 knives. This was the one I picked. Amazing ergo grip, AXIS lock, great blade design. It's heavy and thick. If you want a small knife, this isn't it. If you want something solid in your hand that you feel comfortable carrying and you know your hand isn't going to slip off of it, this is it. Easy flick opening, easy flick closing. Blade is very sharp and solid. The butt of the knife has a protruding metal section that could be useful to break glass if needed, and to...?Purchased in Rio Rancho, NM.

I love this knife.Used it and abused it.Great steel, hold a good edge. But it can rust. Used it for food, pulling staples off of stacks of papers in the office (strong tip), used it to make fire (cutting wood) used it once to pry the door open on a dodge 1500 when I locked the keys inside. It held the door open allowing me to slide in a long wire to get the keys. It has a little side to side play no big deal. And just a little up and down, it's because of the omega springs not being as strong as they used to be.The cons are I can't find a better knife to replace it with. And I'd like something new. (It replaced the Adamas I used to edc, that replaced the Zt 301...)

Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Survival Knife

-Price Paid: $55.00
-Used for Light Duty/General
-Owned for Less than 1 Month

Comments:

The "ultimate knife" is a copy of Gerbers LMF2. Nice ergonomics, appearance is so-so with it's orange plastics and all. But quality... Oh boy! The blade buckles when applied forcecut on insulation straps, went from razor sharp to spoon alike dull after draw knifing and carving for 15 minutes. Now if a couhpotato like me manages to bend and buckle STEEL on PLASTIC and WOOD somethings not right."Maybe slipped quality control, or heat treatment", I thought to myself but after receiving replacement from Gerber it's pretty much the same POS. Clearly they labeled the words "ultimate" and "survival" to the wrong items.

Comment by NCsurvivalist   01/29/2013
Truth, I got this knife a little after Christmas and it broke a day after!I was throwing it and stuck it in the tree every time and the pommel just popped off and what really got me mad was gerber had the nerve to say they " fixed" it because they've had the same issues but that was like a year ago.I got me replacement today and the sheath was broken!!!!

Knife rated by experience, as having served in the german federal army with the original army version as seen here:http://www.dieklinge.de/images/product_images/popup_images/2481_0.jpgThis item is about as much utility one can in a fingerthick package. It contains a useful saw, big small slotted and a phillips screwdriver, a vital can opener, a pointy pick and a one-hand serrated blade. No useless knick knacks like pincer and toothpick, this is a real workhorse. It's compact build and design is outstanding as is ergonomics, weight and value/tools for the money (8 €uro for replacement if you lose your knife while in training or service). It's the perfect EDC seeing as it is always up to every task, and thanks to the double lock system

This is a great light duty folder. It is a great slicer. VG10 steel holds a good edge and it is easy to sharpen.Feels OK in the hand, a bit thin, but very light and nimble. Always keep in mind this is a light duty folder. It will work great for light duty tasks and can be used for self defense in a pinch. The blade is hefty but the liners and handles are a bit light. I think the handleconstruction will fail before the blade. Overall this folder will last a long time if the user understandsits limitations and usage. I think this knife is a very high value product in the Spyderco line. Most of the other Spyderco folders of this size and quality are double the price of the Endura 4. I own the flat ground blade model and the saber grind model. I think the saber grind blade is thicker and stronger. But the flat ground blade slices better.

If you are reading Mr. Arizona's review, you must understand that he must be an employee of Kershaw, Benchmade, CRKT, SOG or Cold Steel. lol i.e. he is the only person EVER to actually receive a knife from Spyderco that was in this condition. Unfortunately the overal scoring for this knife is impacted by this character's zeros. This zero should have zero effect on your decision to buy a Spyderco knife. Personally, I own the Endura with the ZDP-189 steel blade (fantastic!), plus several other Dragonfly, Delica, et al in VG-10 steel-all wonderful, quality knives.

This is my EDC folder. Yeah, it is large, a bit heavyand big. But the other side of the coin is that it isbuilt like a tank, has a heftly blade that will just about do anything needed, feels great in the hand and can be a lifesaver in many situations. I like bigger knives because they can do just about everything thesmaller knives can do and much more the smaller knives can not do. I highly recommend this knife if you needa folder that will stand up to anything you throw at it.

I purchased this knife 6 months ago in Amazon. I use it for everything. It is rugged and stays sharp. The coating is shows its wear. Good quality all around. I have large hands and if the handle was a bit thicker it would be more comfortable. I plan to remove the coating because I think the blade will perform better. Haven't had any rust issues. This is a strong knife that I trust to do anything I need. I bought 3 more because Ka-Bar is discontinuing them. Sheath is Kydex. It is OK and works fine. All in all this is my daily knife. It is a bit on the heavy side but very wellbuilt. I highly recommend it.
