I have been carrying a pair of these knives for over 5(?) years now, and have found so many good uses in addition to self-defense that I never go without them. One goes in the small of the back clipped inside the waistband for concealed carry, the other goes in a special pocket sewn horizontally between the buttons of my uniform shirt. Either way I can access a blade if necessary if my back-up or primary firearm goes down, etc (my employer frowns on automatic knives). The blades hold an edge for a long time, and re-sharpen easily. The Axis-Lock is plenty strong and very secure. While the handles feel light, none have been broken or chipped. I would buy another knife just like this one if needed.

Safe Maker push knifes - great fix blades not only for self defense but as EDC too. A lot of stupid reviews in the forums that "this knife due to the knife shape can not cut or slice" - boolshit - the knife although is a push dagger can be used as every common knife for any kind of tasks - the handle allow as standard push knife hold (between fingers) as common knife hold including precise fore finger hold. I test it for paper cutting, food cutting, wood cutting, even - for pencil resharpening - perfect performance. The stabbing ability is "top dog".
Negatives - the sheath. I can not understand why cold steel claim that this is "neck knife" and even provide chain lanyard ! So every one is free to try - to pull out the knife when sheath hands from neck is possible but definitely this is very hard and uncomfortable way for deploying! Secondly sheath clips - this is out of my understandings why cold steel do not use a typical user defined sheath clips like Walter Backup knife or TOPS knifes which allows vertical and horizontal montage or montage on both sides of the sheath! The knife is definitely suitable for horizontal carry

I carry this knife for self-defense and have found the neck carry one of the best ways to carry this knife. I adjust the bead chain very high on the sternum-just below the "V" on a polo shirt. You deploy the knife from UNDER the shirt--Not from the TOP of the shirt. It is extremely fast. The knife can be deployed by either hand, which tactically, is very sound. I always carry this knife in conjunction with a pistol, however. The sheath is well designed and can be lashed to anything or the clip may be utilized. My problem is the sharpening of the knife. I have tried everything. The angle sharpeners do not hold the knife because of its spine configuration...ceramic sticks, for some reason work poorly. I think AUS 8 steel is very soft.

I bought this knife about a yr back from Walmart for $39 bucks. It was a great investment for the price to say the least. The fit and finish are very good.As good as any other factory made knife made by anyone in fact. I got the gray handle that I like very much. Gives this knife a great look along with the milling and the blade. People still want to know where to get one when the see it. Unfortunately Kershaw no longer makes the USA version. It flips out very easily everytime. It's as fast my assisted openers are. I use only Breakfree Clp or Quick Release to maintain them all. It's made with 14c28n steel Which is a good as VG10 as far as I can see. It take a easily maintainable razor edge. It's very stain resistant also. This has become one of my all time favorite knives. I've been collecting and edging them for about 43 yrs now. As you van imagine I own a lot of knives. I'd say
buy one if you can find one it's a winner all the way around. maintain all my blades. They both will make the blades fly open

I've been carrying a Spyderco Mariner as a primary knife every day since 1982. It has absolutely the most positive lockup, the most readily available carry position and the most direct and intuitive opening procedure that I've experienced. The SpydeyHole is readily found by the index finger and thumb and opening is a matter of quickly articulating hand and wrist. The knife opens in 1/4 second. It can also be opened more slowly by using the thimb to swing the blade. Additionally it can be closed easily with one hand as quickly as it opens. Wearing it in summer in sweaty clothes, while swimming in saltwater and using it to cut salty laden ropes has not resulted in any corrosion at all.
Overall it is the best folding knife that I have ever used.
I am dismayed that Spyderco repeatedly discontinues it.
Please, Spyderco, bring back the H1 Mariner. Thank You.

Would you mind sharing your technique for closing your knife with one hand? Do you actuate the lock and use your leg to close the blade?

This is another good blade for the outdoors. Its a full tang fixed blade made out of 7CR17 stainless. It has Derlin handles, brass finger guard and its built to last. It comes with a leather sheath that holds the knife well, its not very pretty but it looks that it will last as long as the knife. It has an upswept blade design that I like with a nice belly. Its easy to sharpen I usually use a 25 angle to sharpen this one. It has a very classic look that I also like and has some heft to it. Its a good knife for the price. It reminds me of the American Frontier.

This is a small skinner knife but good for many other uses. Its a full tang small fixed blade made out of 7CR17 stainless. The sheath has a good fit and holds it secure. The sheath quality is ok nothing to make you go wow but functional. It doesn't hold an edge for to long but sharpens fast. This knife is used by someone I know as an EDC. I only use it when hunting small game or fishing. Its a great little knife it used to be made in the USA a while back now its made in china. It has derlin handles very tough and with a good grip. Derlin was made by Dupont its resistant to weather and some chemicals its similar to Zytel. This is a good knife for a young scout or their first knife type of deal. You can come across it for under $20 very often.

Nice knife, good size for most tasks, acceptable ergonomic, good blade. My knife came with metal dust inside the lock mechanism and the washers were damaged by this dust. The backlock sometimes failed, not by giving much strenght on the blade ,but because the ergonomic pressed my hand against the backlock lever.. my friend got a cut that could have been very serious. For me it's too big to carry as an EDC .. sometimes i carry in my backpack... and the backlock could be more strong sometimes the blade opens with less strenght that should

I got the knife because i liked the shape of the blade. It looked sturdy anf light weight. The 420hc I like the side to side play on the blade I dont and there is no way to adjust it.

Comment by Brad Bentler   02/28/2017
Our Bantams both have side and a little up and down play. Not a lock that you can depend on.

Its a fixed blade basically, it folds but locks up pretty good. It is thin and large. It has a rough finish on the knife but it is very sharp. The handle is where I have the problem, very smooth no grip whatsoever. No need for pocket clip, lanyard is a must to unlock. You can open it with one hand after it loosens up. It is a good back up for a survival blade or emergency blade.
