The for a Spyderco mid-size designed knife for under $50, the Tenacious has been king. I believe that is all about to change with the Raven2 and its new redesign. Buckle up as you get your mind blown! Better steel, better ergos, and about the same price. What is there to think about?

This is one of ZT smaller lighter knives, and I am really digging it on that side of things. The ergos and some build issues are the problem part for me.

Had this knife for about a year. Great knifeatures for the price. I have SOGs and Kershaws as well. I'd put this knife up against them anytime.

the overall shape, length, thickness, etc.. are all great. The only negative is the handle is lacking palm swell. Other than that, this is an outstanding knife designed for the outdoors. It's not a tactical knife. it wasn't designed to be.

Esee knives are some of the most affordable yet very high quality knives for the price. The all are very well designed and come ready to go straight out of the box. Once you get one, there's not much else to do than put it on your belt and use it. I got tired of spending hundreds of dollars on Busses which did not even come with sheaths. I had to order custom sheaths which was just another expense and hassle. In the end, it was hardly worth it. Esee has take the outdoor knife world by storm and are making kick ass knives that most everyone can afford and use (instead of keeping in a safe). The ESEE 5 is a stellar knife that you'd be very lucky to have it with you when you really need a heavy duty knife. Nothing bad to say about the Esee 5 except that it will rust when not maintained, just like most knives will.

one of the best knives from SwampRat. Even with that said, the ratmandu is not without shortcomings. This knife is made out of carbon SR101 steel which rusts very fast (much like 1095) therefore SwampRat heavily coat it with an abrasive crinkle coat. This coating protects the steel but hinders cutting performance. the edge on my ratmandu came thick so it needs to be thinned out. This is very common with SwampRat knives. The choil on Ratmandu is unnecessary in my opinion but there's no option to have the knife made without it. The handle while being ergonomic is too thin which is the biggest disappointment. When wearing gloves, the handle is not an issue. I think it's a good and very solid, heavy duty knife. It's also on the expensive side and doesn't even come with a sheath. The knife costs $170 and when you add a kydex then you're investing $230. Not the best deal considering that there's knives out there just as good like Esee that come complete with excellent kydex sheaths and tons of other options. the high price tags and lack of sheaths is what is preventing me from obtaining more SwampRat knives.

on the scale of 1-10. This knife gets an 8. the handle is too thin. (it's not much bigger than the smaller F1- comparing both side by side). The handle material is good. No complaints. The clip point gets really thin towards the tip. I haven't heard of any failures but I would NOT put a lot of force on it. The overall shape is more tactical than it is for the outdoors. The clip point is just too pointy for me. The bigger brother A1 is the full size version and probably a better choice for just not much more money.

Following up on the review I did on this knife almost a year ago, it still is a GREAT knife. It is a knife that cuts very well for a blade this size, it will cut almost everything you put it against. The AUS 8 blade is pretty good steel, in addition to sharpening it on a stone, finalize it with a strop and you will see a big difference. Overall I still would recommend this to those who want a knife that wont break the bank.

When we are talking about an EDC fixed blade, Boker has offered up a small option for use designed by Bill Coye. The Ridgeback knife has the potential to be a great knife, but the short handle is watch kills it for me.

I use this knife for everything from slicing tomatoes to gutting deer to cutting thick rubber hose and it absolutely has been a trooper in every sense!
This particular model sports D2 blade steel, not a super steel by any definition but if your looking for an affordable blade steel that will cut no matter what, even dullish, this is the steel to get. D2 takes somewhat of a toothy, saw like edge that just keeps on cutting.
As for the knife itself, the build/material quality is there. The Axis lock is simply phenomenal, strong and quick. the handle is my only mild dislike in that the rounded butt isn't my favorite and I feel it could definitely benefit from more jimping. At least it is a closed back design as open, or through designs do not work well for the guy who might have to drop a hand full of 1/4" washers into the same pocket as his knife while at work.
If the Griptilian was offered with a closed back, G-10 or Carbon Fiber scale (handle) it would be the perfect knife! The drop point blade profile Benchmade uses is perfect by design, blade where you need it and a strongish tip profile.
