I bought this one at one of CS' parking lot sales circa early 2000's. I love the sweeping wide blade on this knife. My one grip has to be with ergos. The grip is supposed to mimic a Persian Shamshir sword grip, and it does this well, but there is much left to be desired as far as real traction goes. Also, the lockup after 3.5-4 years IS a bit loose for my liking, not cool on anything in the $20.00 catagory. I'm thinking the new tulwar designs with the Tri-Ad locks wont have ANY problem with wear on the lock. All in all, a great slicer, an intimidating "bad neighborhood" knife, and tougher than nails folder from CS.

The title says it all, im in love. As soon as you take it out of the box it all became clear. It's a badass looking knife. The "SOG" Pocket clip to the "SOGSOGSOG" grip inserts and the digi style pattern on various areas of the handle. Then you finally flip it open and see the aggressive thumb gimping and a very mean looking blade.

But this beauty is more than just skin deep. It has a very commanding deploy. It'll be ready for action when you are. The blade is shaving sharp. That's why my middle finger on my left hand is bald. It even has a safety switch. With the safety on the blade will not deploy. If you want to use it it's there otherwise it's easily ignored.

Very lightweight and feels sturdy even without the steel liners you might be used to.

Now on to the bad. Remember the badass looking pocket clip and the "SOGSOGSOG" grips? They work together to make a VERY grippy surface for your pants pocket. With Dickies pants on it was a chore getting the knife in and out of the pocket. If I ever need to defend myself in a rush i'd be in trouble. Hopefully it will slide better against denim.

All in all it's a great knife and I will be a future SOG buyer.

Well let's start

-Build- Overall this knife is built very well. It is very sturdy (coming from the full metal supports all the way down the knife and the D2 steel itself being a more ridged steel) It is not a light knife, if you want something light agile and doesn't feel like a battle axe this isn't for you. The knife itself is built to take a beating; prying, cutting, you name it. It can handle a lot of abuse. the plastic pieces on the handle are not cheap or flimsy as seen with many knifes but of a high quality resulting in a very good feel.

-Comfort- The handle isn't what you would call ergonomic. It does fit very well in the hand though and sits very well when held. The jumping toward the blade on the top of the handle provides very good traction for your thumb when cutting. It isn't over done or excessive.

-Quality- This knife is probably of the highest quality that I have ever known. The D2 steel is very sturdy and able to retain an edge. Another aspect of this is that putting an edge back on the knife is very easy and can be done without expensive equipment. I was able to fine tune my edge with just a fine stone.

Overall- I would say that hands down this is an excellent knife. It is very weighty though, don't say that I didn't warn you. All my friends joke that this is a tank killer. Easy to carry, conceal and use daily. I would recommend this knife to anyone whether you are going for everyday carry or duty use.

A good slipjoint for the money. Well proportioned with a usable blade. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of its bigger siblings. However this knife does what it was designed to do at a reasonable price point very well indeed.

I have owned this tool for nearly 4 years. I carry and use this tool daily at work. The three main features of a multi-tool (to me) are the pliers, the screw driver ,and the knife. The pliers are easily operated with out having to unfold or slide the tool. The knife blade is easily accessed with one hand and 3" long. The feature I like the most on this tool is the screw driver. The socket on the bottom of the handle takes your standard 1/4" screw driver bit. It comes with 2 bits stored on the handle. The ergonomics of the handle puts the driver bit in the center of the handle, not offset to one side as do the more popular multi-tools.This centering of the screw driver makes the tool very comfortable to use. I carry four extra bits in a rubber holder in my pocket.

The only cons for this tool are its length (does not fold or collapse), its weight, and the poor wire cutter. Otherwise I prefer and use this tool. It has replaced my Gerber years ago.

I originally bought this knife from the NRA. I kept it in my collection box for too long. I took it hunting with me one day and I killed 6 wild hogs. I cleaned all the hogs and the knife never got dull. I used it as my main knife for a couple of years after that. It is still sharp with only a few light touch ups. I went to buy another one and they are discontinued. I finally found 1 and bought a back up. My boss likes it too and he bought 2. It may not be the best knife but for 85 bucks its awesome. I will never be without it.

Great knife, great locking system does not budge, high quality lock. This knife has a unique locking system by the metal piece on the handle switching to the side than back. Unlike any knife I have seen, need buy for any use. Quick sharpen= very very sharp and strong knife 10/10

Perfectly balanced, compact design, even though it is a 9 inch fixed. Edge retention is excellent. The blade is quite thick and will withstand some abuse. The wood handle look great, but they are slippery when wet.

I bought this knife over at Cabelas for 20 bucks. They still have it now for same price. I've had many knives including Spyderco endura 4, Benchmade Griptilain, Boker plus, and a few other kershaws and what not. This I think is in my top 2 favorite of knives. The blade steel is "Sandvik 13C26 stainless steel" and it is great. I did break the tip doing dumb stuff like using it as a throwing knife. sent ti kershaw and they threw a new blade on it for me. The steel is considered a lower end steel but i think it is THE BEST FOR THE PRICE! It is way better than 440, 8CR13MOV, AUS 8. Not up to par with VG-10, 154CM or S30V. But like i said for price, it is Great. Easy to sharpen, holds and Edge for a long time and i BEAT THE LIVING HELL OUT of this knife. I used to stop, trims bushes with it, (the "limbs" were as thick as fingers), I used to use it for taking bark off of fire wood or cutting twigs and such off of branches,EDCed it for about a year for work and Iam a Carpenter, I used it for a ton of stuff minus PRYING. Only had a little blade play with it. Is a bit heavy of a knife but you dont notice at all when its in your pocket. Want to find a upscaled version of that knife. Love that blade shape and the handle is fit perfect for the hand and the jimping on it is phenomenal.

I ordered mine off of amazon. Was't really what i expected i guess. Seemed like a well built knife for the price. Just to small to do real tasks with it. It is in what i consider the "envelope opening" section. The blade steel is 8cr13mov which is an American designed steel but it is manufactured by China. To say the least it is a SOFT steel that doesn't cost very much. I found myself Sharpening it almost everytime i used it. Was easy to sharpen yeah, but just had to sharpen way to much. Just ordered to see what the steel was like and that "speedsafe" system. Dont care for the speedsafe either. Just because I can easily open pretty much any folding knife just as fast if not FASTER. Dont want to worry about springs failing. Ended up selling it to a friend that was looking for a cheap first knife.

I have been collecting over 50 years. I believe it more difficult to build a great small knife ( under 3 inches). Being a "suit" can't carry a Rambo knife in NYC and I believe this best non- custom little knife on the market that does not feel like a rock in the pocket of your suit pants. Only complaint is wood scales don't give grip G-10 or carbon fiber sand blasted would provide.
Chris if you ever read this please consider grippier scales on this great little knife

Schrade SCHF9 Extreme Survival Knife

Comments:

pros; solid build, full tang, non slip handle, cheap but versatile sheath, fairly well balanced, hole in but end for lanyard, concave in base of blade helps when carving or feathering wood,no problem batoning this knife its built like a tank 1/4 inch thick steel almost right to the point of knife, comfortable grip because of the contoured shape of handle, full tang, very good for chopping has good heft(also a con knife is very heavy!!!),knife came sharp new, could make this knife a great survival tool because sheath has a detachable pouch on it which can be used to carry other survival gear in,can be used as a pry bar i think it is thicker than some I own lol.Cons;tip is thick goes frompoint to 1/4 inch thick in 3/4 of an inch of length of knife, not stainless steel so would have to keep oiled but does have a decent grey coating on blade, you would need a smaller knife for fine work as this is large and heavy feels like a meat cleaver
