I have owned several large blades over the years, and I wasn't sure if the SP5 would stack up. But as soon as I started using it, I was immediately very impressed. It has the capability to be a machete, tactical blade, medium chopper, and finer detailed work. This is like a multi-tool in a fixed blade.

6 months into ownership, it will not lock open, and a one year warranty, who wears out a knife in one year??,let alone 6 months. i contacted Gerber, and they sent Me elsewhere, and they said, basically, tough shit buddy,,We got ya., and Oh, i bought 5, for gifts, because I assumed They had a life time warranty, like BUCK, and were a good product. if I don't get some kind of repair, i am going to bad mouth "GERBER KNIVES till the day I die, face book, whatever, and I do have sign on My tailgate stating what a rip off Gerber is,,million dollar business, screwing an average hard working customer, guess that is why They are a million dollar business. Said My Piece!.

My fast draw did the same thing with the lock. All you have to do it turn the lock switch rapidly every now and then to get dust and lent out of the lock switch so it can close properly. After that it works fine

Comment by TC   03/18/2015
I had mine for approx a year and the lock quit working. It's not a expensive knife but I did expect it to last a bit longer as I didn't abuse it. I sent it back and they sent me a new replacement, no questions asked. I literally received it today. Took about a week to get back. I'm very happy with the prompt return. I've had several Gerber knives and overall very happy with their products.

This knife is a really good one for the price, not so good materials but much than fair for the price. The assisted opener is really good and smooth. Rasor sharp out of the box, perfect size and weight, good ergonomics. In fact I like 8CR13MOV stainless steel easy to resharp and rust resistant.

-Price Paid: $88.00

Comments:

This knife is a tank of a work horse, worth more than a 10 in in the overall category to say the least. The spear point is reliable, the belly and tang of this blade are both full, and the edge retention is excellent. Yes, the blade coating will wear off but all of them will. The spine is thick and sturdy and runs almost the entire length of the blade meaning this is a monster batoner. The functional weight is blade forward which is what you want out of a good chopping knife. The overall weight is much lighter in the hand than one would expect, due to the strict quality controls of the GEN II line over at Ontario. I believe that all the spec plus 2 knives are x-rayed before leaving the factory. There are plenty of videos on you tube about how well this knife works in the field and after testing it myself, I agree. This knife excels in wood processing. Great chopper, great for batoning, and good at being used as a two handed draw knife. The sheath is nylon and has two adjustable snap retainers. I prefer nylon sheaths to kydex as they are less expensive and can me used for more things if need be. The handle does very well at absorbing the vibrations from both strikes with the knife and batoning. I did find it a little slick when wet so I rolled on some truck bed liner a friend had lying around for extra grip. This can also be done by using a round tipped soldering iron or even a nail and candle to create dimples in the material. The coating of the blade prevents the use of the knife as a striker for fire rods. That's ok, this knife is a little big to use in that application and I have other options. All and all, its a great knife that is not too big nor two small to be used in the roles of wood processing, survival, or large game sportsman blade. Any price below a hundred dollars is well worth the quality of this knife sine the value of the knife exceeds a hundred dollars.

The Vox Rold is designed by Boker Knives and fits right in the medium weight survival/camp knife. It is well designed with good materials that can hold up to hard use in the back country. The short coming is in the sheath, which is garbage and really holds it back from being a great knife to just a good knife.

the knife is a overall great value its cheaper than most moras but the knife was not evenly ground. it was not off much but enough to notice it. the handle is very comfortable but the guard could use some redesigning. it has a 90 degree spine so it strikes a ferro rod and can make fine wood shavings. the knife does not hold its edge very well so prepare to sharpen often. it also has a slight secondary bevel.

Size and light weight make it a great edc knife, while people won't be afraid when you get it out of your pocket. nice steel, can be really sharp, thanks to the good steel, by te way well heat treated, and the thin blade. a gentleman's knife for sure, not meant for hard work at all but really efficient. easy one hand opening, well sized spyderhole. nice detail : the steel made spyderco logo, looks great. good retention for the clip, but could be a bit agressive with fragile cloth
the cons : poor grip, no screws to open/adjust it, but rivets.
very comfortable to carry, nice look and good cutting abilities make it one of my favorite edc.

the birch handle is beautiful and feels warm in cold weather. the steel takes and holds a edge better than any of my other knives. the sheath fits the knife very well and is top notch. it is by far my favorite knife.

This knife is built SOLID, with rugged use in mind. The blade is just under 1/4" thick and the AUS8 steel is very solid. I have used this tool for cutting and splitting logs and the blade holds amazingly well. The full tang is great for hammering when needed and the notches on top work great when notching wood for rope grooves.. I can build an emergency structure with just this knife alone... Grip could have been a little better in the erganomics, but it's still very comfortable in hand.. The blade is also well balanced and has less swing fatigue then I've seen in other knifes like the KaBar

When I first picked up this knife I was impressed with it's quality, feel and appearance so I bought one for $125. Problem is they sell on the internet for about $80.......my bad, I should have checked. It really does deploy quickly as long as you carry it in pants with wide pockets. When you draw, your elbow swings way out to the side, making it vulnerable and it closes with a loud click. You can't make it quiet. When you are sitting and your thumb is too big for the Spyder hole than the blade is difficult to open and very slow. Putting a cable tie "knot" in the Spider hole next to where your thumb is makes it work a lot better. OBTW, I have no business interest either way with this product. I suggest you try it before you buy it.

i own every leatherman tool made up to the MUT ( which i will never get because its way too pricey). i love the wave. the one pictured is the second edition or rerelase. it has some improvements over the original wave. the wave was the first multitool to have rounded edges rather than squared off . i have given several of my friends waves and have one in each of my tackle boxes.if you don't wanna wear a sheath , i would recommend something from the Juice line . less weighty and more pocket friendly .ive had very few problems with any of my leatherman tools . the old super used to loosen up from time to time but if you know how to tighten the screws thats not too bad of an issue. you can pay more for a multitool but there's no reason to . the wave is a great tool .

You can purchase a pocket clip that attached to your wave, which is how I sometimes carry mine.
