Gerber has the potential to make great USA made knives and a reasonable price. This is proven with the Strongarm. Great price at $50-$60, and lots of options in both colors and serrated or PLAIN EDGED models. I own all kinds of knives from the ESEE6, TOPS BOB, SOG Seal PUP, Ka-Bar BK2, and Mora Bushcraft Black. I love this Strongarm and would recommend it to anyone.

Overall it's a decent knife but nothing special. The wood handle is nice and fills the hand well, making it easy to use for long periods of time. I think I bought the knife because I enjoyed the looks more so than that I thought it had any actual functional advantage over any other knife.

Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Covert

-Price Paid: N/A

Comments:

Other commenter bought the mini covert, it is junk. There is also a larger sized AF folder and its name escapes me but it is uncommon.
Mine is the COVERT with black blade and double bevel. It is strictly a defensive edc so I shatpened the other side. The knife is ideal for that purpose because it has a secondary lock to the liner lock and also accomodates a reverse grip. I like it a lot. It is not a general purpose knife! As an aside, Boker seems to be licensed to make fixed blade version of this design.

Dagger type. Kinda Loveless design. Not a lot of function except defense. The sheath is very funky design. It didn't impress me. It was plastic with a thumb button release and a reversible metal belt clip. I had this knife and lost it a while ago. I'm leaving comments because there weren't any.

This knife is so classy. It takes you to a simpler time and can preform very well. At $13 it is a great knife. Lightweight, easy to resharpen, and fun to use. You will love having this in the collection.

The ball bearing lock ruinded this knife for me as it is far to hard do close the knife one handed. If you are used to benchmades axis lock dont let the looks fool you. This is a differnt type of lock that is very strong but also very unpractical and unsecure at the same time as i was alway either tempted to use both hands for closing or had a hard time closing it the my thumb. This is the only critique i can find on a otherwise great design but unfortunately it overshadows all plus points...i gave the knife away after a few wees.

The Izula II I purchased had a very bad off center grind on the blade. The knife also had very loose scales on the handle. I kept trying to tighten them but they would keep coming loose.

After some haggling the knife was returned to the vendor.

I would not recommend an ESEE based on the overall poor quality and workmanship based on what I experienced with the Izula II.

Schrade SCH602TI is the top of the line folder that Schrade is producing for 2015. It has a D2 steel blade and Titanium handles. The design is fantastic and the materials are top notch. The two flaws are that the washers are nylon or teflon, and the frame lock tends to catch and does not disengage smoothly. Not a bad knife, just a few details that need to be addressed to take it from a good knife to an amazing knife.

This Boker is a winner. Out of the box one of the smoothest opening knives I have ever owned. I own some two hundred plus knives, both factory and custom. Of which 25% are custom made.
I've been collecting along time and know knives very well.
Also it was undoubted the sharpest factory knife I've ever
gotten straight from the seller. They took the time to put
a near mirror final polish on the edge. So a little 9k
stropping and it's right where I like all my knives to be,,
extremely sharp. The fit and finish as excellent,no complaints there. It has a 440c blade which is my all time favorite steel
for and EDC.It is very chip and stain resistant and takes a very, very sharp edge.Plus the edge retention is also very good.
Making it the ideal general purpose steel. The lock up is rock
solid with now movement what so ever. Having a titanium liner
and clip make it an even better deal. The ergonomics of th g10
handle finish the knife off very nicely. I'm also impressed on the slick design on how you can open it so easily. They've done away with the thumb-stud by simply extending the spine just a bit. Making it a uniquely easy open way to use and get used to. I carry it as a gentleman's blade,I find it much to nicely made for anything else. I've got nothing but positive feedback from all that I've shown it too.Especially once they see how the open works.Makes an excellent conversation starter in that respect. So If you're looking for a very well
made EDC I'd recommend giving this knife a try.

The Overlander 2 is the revised version of the original Overlander. They have thinned out the handle which makes it very comfortable and given it a new look with different colored micarta and blade coating. This is a very robust little knife, if you are looking for a smaller fixed blade that has can handle a lot of abuse then this is the knife for you. It is thick and has a saber grind which does not make it an amazing slicer, but it will preform well in all the task you would ask it to do.

The Steel Will Chieftain is a modern take on a classic bowie design. The knife is very high quality and well built. The sheath is junk and will need to be replaced. The blade design and steel is awesome and will preform very well. The handle is a little blocky but other then that feel great. All in all a very solid well built knife that can do a lot of work for you.
