I bought a partially serrated kershaw chill a few months ago, and edc'd it for a while before giving it to a friend. The knife was exceptional for the money. The Chill has a 3 1/8" 8cr13mov steel blade. In my experience, 8cr13mov performs decently, resists rust well, and sharpens pretty easily. I love kershaws serrations, because they dont shred the material that you are cutting, unlike many other brands. One of the main criticisms i had against the knife was the lack of jimping, but i feel that this was made up for by the finely checked g-10. i took a dremel to the spine of the blade anyway to get some jimping. I was afraid to really use the knife for anythings higher than light tasks because i just dont trust liner locks much. I did start to get some side to side play after a little while, but this was fixed by slight adjustment of the pivot screw. There is no thumb stud on the blade, but the flipper works perfectly, and is decently fast. Overall I liked the knife a lot, and for $16 how can you go wrong?

I bought a NIB benchmade 943SBK from a member of benchmadeforum.com on January 6th, and i must say, it is my favorite benchmade so far. The fit and finish is great, opens smooth, and is surprisingly light. I have been edc'ing it exclusively since I got it in the mail, and am more than impressed. The knife carries easily in the pocket with full aluminum handles and a nice, strong pocket clip. The main criticism i have against the knife is the lack of useful jimping. The "jimping" on the back is purely aesthetic, but this is easily fixed with a dremel tool, or griptape if you dont feel like cutting into the knife. The knife centers perfectly, and the axis lock is executed perfectly. The 943 has a 3.4" S30V blade, which is one of my favorite steels for edc, especially since i live in a very humid area, because it resists rust well. I love the contrast of all black blade, handle, and clip with the anodized blue backspacer as well. Overall, this is one of my favorite edc's at the moment.

Ive had my zing for quite a bit and really enjoy this unique knife. Out of the box the blade was super sharp. I really like the newer sandivik steels that kershaw uses. I think they provide good edgeholding capability at a great price. I also like the feel of the groves in the blade as they pass through cardboard or other material. My biggest complaint is that the knife doesnt fit my hand too well. Other than that this is a great knife and probably underappreciated by the knife community.

Reviewing the Kershaw Speed Bump in black aluminum handle version. Fantastic assisted open blade with a very unique blade shape. Assist feature is fast and snappy, has a very solid feel and noise to it which is satisfying. The closing mechanism is really cool because when you push/engage it, the blade drops/releases but the knife is designed so that the blade STOPS when it drops a bit and does not come close to your fingers at all, so you can then adjust your grip and close it. Very cool knife but my only gripe is that it's quite heavy for EDC.. although I would definitely put it in the category of EDC.

I am reviewing the paramilitary 1, black g10 handle with satin plain edge blade. This is probably the most hardcore and tough folder I own. It is built to be a real workhorse. Rugged and grippy handle, dangerous yet beautiful blade which is just the right size for many tasks, and a great self defense/tactical knife as well. G10 is VERY nice and has excellent grip and feel in the hand. The only negative comment I have is the clip not being able to be repositioned since I am a lefty and it gets in the way.

Compression lock is very unique and I absolutely love it.

I will definitely be getting another in the future.. perhaps the para 2 when new colors come out.

Comment by Alex   05/03/2011
The Para2 would probably be a perfect knife for you if you like the Para1 but want to move the clip. Para2 should let you put it tip up or tip down, lefty or righty and has some other refinements as well.

Overall this is a great little folder that has some class. The build quality of the knife is very nice. The blade is easy to sharpen and holds an edge nice. The blade opens smooth and fast with the Speedsafe and flipper. The thumb stud takes some practice to use due to the compact size of the knife. Along that same line, the safety has the same issue. The compact size takes time to easily use the safe. However, the safety is a slide that pushes a steel bearing tight inside that prevents the blade from opening. The knife feels very nice in the hand eventhough you can fit only three fingers on the handle. The pocket clip is robust and works excellent. I have worn out the spring in the Speedsafe, but no problem. I sent the knife to Kershaw letting them know the issue and they replaced the spring no questions asked and sharpened the blade while it was there also. In my experience, Kershaw has incredible customer service that is second to none. The service Kershaw has given me with any of the knives I own of thiers keeps me a loyal customer.

Overall, this is an excellent knife. The build of the knife is solid, no blade play fast opening with the Speedsafe spring assist. The only possible issue with the build is the plasic safety for the blade tip. However, this really isn't a big issue. The placement of the safety is easy to operate and the leverage needed to break it is substantial if it is due to an accidental opening. I have broken my safe once (by pounding a brad into trim).... but one email to Kershaw and a few days later I have 2 replacement safety locks and a tool provided by Kershaw FREE OF CHARGE with no questions asked. The knife feels great in the hand, but the handle could be a little longer. For what I paid for this knife, it is hard to beat. Kershaw also replaced the spring free of charge when I wore it out... mostly from opening and closing it just for fun. This is my favorite EDC with a strong pocket clip and slim profile.

I've had my Vantage Pro for a couple of months and it's been in rotation as my EDC. I went with the smaller Vantage Pro because I wanted something that I could take out in public with no worries. The blade is centered almost perfectly and locks up solid when open. The s30v blade has taken an edge fairly easily the few times I've had to sharpen the knife so far. I've heard some complaints that the smaller Vantage Pro was too small, but in my opinion, it fits my hand nicely for doing basic light duty cutting. I consider the Vantage Pro to be a solidly built, good looking, quality knife.

The ZT0200 at approximately 8oz is a tank of a knife. The blade locks up tight with no play whatsoever in either direction. The blade came centered almost perfectly, and opens silky smooth with very little effort. In my opinion the ergonomics of the handle is excellent. My hands are average size and the knife fits perfectly. My only negative thoughts on the 0200 are the overly rough G10 scales. Granted they give you a great grip, but they also tend to eat up pockets pretty fast. A minor complaint to an otherwise excellent knife.

I recently visited my local gun shop to paruse their selection. There were mostly benchmade there so I had the opportunity to handle quite a few models. Seeing that I usually carry medium to large folders, I thought it was time to find a small edc option. I had a limited edition griptilian but never used it. After handling a few knives I came upon the 530 lightweight. I had seen this model in the catalogs and a few small reviews. It looked much smaller in the flesh. Upon first touch, I was immediately suprised at the low weight. This was for me. The blade was thin for slicing and the tip could handle light delicate tasks. The handle was comfortable and the slight "quillion" flares at the top gave me fine control. While the axis lock is very smooth, I am not to happy with the shape. It has a rounded bowl like shape which offers no grip at all. Also the thumb stud seems odd. It also offers no grip and forces you to put pressure on the blade sideways rather than forward. All else is well. The blade is 154cm and sharp with a nice satin finish. This knife fits my pocket quite well and is so light and thin that I forget I am carrying it. Superb buy from benchmade.

So First off i want to say that even though this style of knife is covered more then its fair share i beleive that my review with the ZDP-189 steel will hopefully expand and already expanded info stream

bought the knife second hand, was NIB and it was amazing, the FRN handles were incredibly ergonomic especially with the bidirectional patterns. hardly feel the pocket clip in hand (something that truly bothers me when i do)

the action was as smooth as oil on glass, have yet to oil it, the phosphorous bronze washers really are a wonder in the knife world.

The blade being of ZDP-189 steel is amazing, to me it takes all the fuss out of the elements and hits the basics, lots of carbon, lots of chromium, and here we are with a steel that competes with S30V, VG-10, 154CM, ATS34, BG-42 etc, in all the use its gone through the most its had done was a minute or two on a ceramic stone, stropping and its back to a knife i can regularly shave with

Comment by Nick   11/13/2012
Yeah but they offer one in zdp-189 as well

The SOG toothlock is a nice Design that is solidly built. The toothlock which it gets its name from is slightly awkward at first but is easy to get the hang of after a few uses. It is easily opened one handed by either combination of motions. Using the adequate thumbstuds a wrist flick or the lock nudging the blade ajar. The Blade is slightly smaller a bigger 3.5 inch blade would be nice
