I purchased the 746 about a month ago from a local knife shop. I owned the 741 Onslaught prior to this and was already a fan of the Bob Lum design. I always thought that the 741 would be perfect if it was scaled down and bit. The 746 Mini-Onslaught is an excellent EDC sized knife with a blade length just under 3 1/2". The knife I purchased is a first production with plain edge using 154cm steel. The edge is beveled nicely and even on both sides. The blade seats in the handle perfectly centered. Handles are smooth G10 that some might find lacking in texture but suitable for my needs. Liners are 420j. The blade has thumb-hole opener and is very ergonomic and smooth. Blade lockup is Benchmades Axis locking mechanism and engages with no blade play side to side or vertically. The pocket clip is not reversible and only allows for tip-up carry due to the Axis lock. Blade provides excellent utility edge and came from factory with razor sharpness. The 746 Mini-Onslaught has served very well as one of my preferred every day carries.

this knife is a really good edc knife for under $35. the pocket clip rides really low on the pocket. blade length is almost 3 and a half inches, good for edc tasks. the edge wasnt really great out of the box, but after a good sharpening, it is as good as any spyderco. handle is nice and it is pretty light. deployment is really fast with the flipper on the spine. a little ackward at first but after a little fondling it is really good. after 3 months of solid edc use, it has a little play side to side, but it does have an adjustable pivot screw on it.

overall a really nice edc for under $35

I wasn't expecting much from a $65 knife, but boy was I suprised. It was sharp out of the box and fit and finish was flawless.

Iv'e had this camping 3 times so far and it has worked flawlessly. I have chopped 2" to 3" brances off of trees, dug holes, cut rope... I do wipe it off before I store it away so I have no idea what the other poster on here is talking about on the rust(think he is a hater). For $65 I can't really think of any reason not to get this. The handle does wear a tad bit, but it just adds character. It does sharpen well and the sheath is a work of art. Seriously, the sheath is worth $35 to $40 itself.

Kershaw changed the name so this knife is known as the "Nerve".As far as sharpness goes, like all other Kershaw products, razor sharp out of the box.It is one of the made in china line they came out with in 2010.The steel is 8cr13MoV which is basically comparable with AUS6 with the addition of slightly higher carbon content and less nickel.I find it performs very well for an "average" type steel.Maybe better than AUS6.It has g10 handle scales which are CNC milled and offer a really great grip.Dual liners for strength,no problem there. Some jimping behind the blade and on the back of handle, also in the fore finger choil.More than the usual crappy type of Kershaw jimping. The blade has a thumb "plate" as opposed to a stud or disk.Kinda looks weird at first but when doing heavy cutting makes for a great platform for your thumb to really bear down on,very comfortable. It's a drop point with a long subtle curved edge, not too much belly.Draw cuts is where it shines. This one does not have speedsafe but once you get used to the action can be opened about as fast as if it did.Tip up or down pocket clip, both ways ride deep in the pocket,(NICE!!).There is also the ability to remove the nylon back strap making it a flow through design. It not only changes the look,it makes it easier to clean. The only gripe I have is the blade isn't centered when closed.I think that is due to the strength of the locking liner putting a lot of pressure against the blade.Anyway it's a minor thing.Overall for the money it's a great knife.

Comments:

I picked up a Mini CQC-7 (a 2008 version, as stamped on the blade)on a whim over a year ago and have carried it litterally every day since. The size is perfect for every day carry and its strong as a tank.

The liner lock is thick and perfectly centered; the blade locks open rock solid and there is no play whatsoever. The wave feature works perfectly and I can open the knife as I pull it from my pocket faster than someone else can open an auto.

The blade is thick and the chisel grind is amazingly sharp. I know some people don't like the chisel grind, but once you actually use it you cannot argue with the performance. I have used this knife to stab, cut and pry and it simply keeps on going. The blade is also easy to sharpen and retains its edge very well. As an LEO, I have used the tanto tip to actually stab through doorframes, car window glass and the metal around a metal shed door, among other things. I've used the blade to make tent stakes, clean fish, cut flex cuffs, ropes, seatbelts...you name it, this little knife does it all. The finish of the blade is black and now carries signs of wear such as scratches and wear marks, but overall the finish is very durable. I actually like the way the blade has worn; it gives the knife some personality if you ask me. I also work / live by the ocean where it is salty and humid...but this knife has shown no signs of rust on either the blade or liners (I do clean and lube the knife periodically, but not really consistently, so this shows that the knife's finish is very durable in salty / humid environments that usually play havoc on other knives).

The G-10 handle is grippy and is a good fit in the hand. I added a bit of lanyard to extend the grip, but it really isn't needed. The overall grip size is simply perfect for a moderatly small folder and fits my hand well. I am able to get plenty of purchase on the grip for even extreme cutting or stabbing tasks (as listed in the blade section above).

I am a hard user of knives, and this little knife has exceeded my expectations in every way. It is well worth the money and comes with a lifetime warranty. Like I mentioned before, I hadn't even been interested in the kife at first and just picked it up as a second thought...and it has become my constant companion. You cannot go wrong with this knife.

Bought the knive about a month ago. I actually got the tanto blade version with no serrations. This is one of the best knives for the money ever. Obviously not $100.00 or custom quality - but very close! I really like the 14C28N Sandvik steel. The modified tanto blade has gotten a lot of positive feedback from others who have seen it. Everyone wants to know how to get one. It was shaving sharp out of the box and held the edge well until I cut a lot of cardboard boxes, which seem to dull my knives faster than almost anything. And it was easy to sharpen back to a very keen edge. The flipper is still a little stiff so it doesn't lock open every time. Probably could be solved by just a small adjustment but I want to use it first so I don't end up with blade play later. And the comment from one of the other reviews about the blade not centering when closed, I haven't had that experience. Overall I think this is a GREAT buy. Hopefully this feeling, after only a month, will continue after a few years of use.

If the pivot on your Zing is a little stiff, maybe try a drop of gun oil on the pivot right between the knife scales. I use Hoppes(cheap and widely available), but any will do.

knife is very good and useful in many aspects as in self defense,outdoors/bushcrafting.I hate serrations on all knives its a personal thing but i fine it makes the first part of the blade useless, handle is kinda too hard for comfort when used for long periods, durable blade and corrosion resistance also easy to resharpen.I have an earlier model and my only real complaint with this knife is the sheath SUCKS,does not hold the knife securely at all but maybe i got a defective sheath also SOG sucks at customer service as i have sent a message about the sheath sucking and never got a reply.other than that SOG puts out very good quality products

knife sux to sharpen, hella expensive, coating is durable but stupid as it goes all the way to the cutting edge which is retarded.it does good for what its meant to (ie: chopping, etc) but not awesome.loved it at first but after a year its quite dull and virtually impossible to sharpen.TOPs has a sharpening service but kinda useless if it goes dull in the field and you have to send it in isnt it

A wonderful knife. It's very reliable and versatile. The features are 2 stainless blades, a saw, an opener for tins and bottles and a tweezers. I used it for more than 4 years for fishing, camping, in the woods and for every day carry, with only sharpening once. Great edge holding. It's still in use.

Just got this knife in the mail today. Awesome look and feel. Very light. Snaps open with minimal force on thumb stud. No flipper. Blade is great and lists my knife as 167/1000 first production. Very good feel in the hand. Aluminum handles have dull appearance which I like and will hopefully not scratch very easily. This knife is a bit pricey for this class ( I paid 149 shipped ) since you can get Kershaw models like the Leek and Scallion for about 20-40% the cost of this one. The weight is quite a bit less than the Leek so probably not a fair comparison. My only concern is if I am really willing to use this as my daily carry or if the cost and rarity will cause me to worry about damage or loss.
